Avessa a divulgar números, a Amazon mostrou, em julho, o desempenho de seu leitor de e-books Kindle. No comunicado, a empresa afirmou que nos últimos meses seus e-books têm superado, em unidades, a venda de livros de papel de capa dura. Segundo a Amazon, nos últimos três meses, para cada cem livros de capa dura comercializados foram vendidos 143 livros para o Kindle. Em junho, foram vendidos 180 e-books via Kindle para cada cem livros de capa dura.
Detalhe importante: o volume de e-books vendidos pelo site triplicou no primeiro semestre de 2010 em comparação com o mesmo período de 2009.
Segundo a Associação das Editoras Americanas, houve um crescimento de 163% em maio e de 207% de janeiro a maio. “As vendas de livros via Kindle tanto em maio quanto no período de janeiro a maio superaram essas taxas de crescimento”, afirmou a empresa.
Os mais vendidos para o Kindle são: Charlaine Harris, Stieg Larsson, Stephenie Meyer, James Patterson e Nora Roberts. A loja Kindle dos EUA tem mais de 630 mil livros, dos quais 510 mil são vendidos por 9,99 dólares ou menos.
